The most popular fashion trends of 2021

One of the many things that we have missed during the global pandemic is the annual fashion weeks. Most physical events were cancelled during 2020 and the early part of 2021, and some ran digitally instead. But London Fashion Week 2021 is scheduled to run in September as a blend of a physical and digital show, with over 100 participating designers.

Love them or hate them, fashion weeks often hit the headlines with some of their more unusual and bizarre creations. Not necessarily styles that would work for most people’s everyday lives perhaps.

But, in the absence of fashion weeks, trends have still been growing over the last couple of years regardless. So let’s take a look at five of the most popular fashion trends of 2021. Trends that seem set to be here to stay.

Five fashion trends for winter 2021

  • Jumpsuits

Who knew? Jumpsuits in various shapes and sizes have sneakily become completely on-trend and are now seen by many as a wardrobe staple. Whether you prefer them casual, formal, business-style, or more of a boiler suit or overall, there is something for everyone.

Fabulous for summer, jumpsuits can also adapt well to winter climes. They can be layered up with T-shirts, shirts or sweaters to create a stylish and practical look that is still the height of fashion.

  • Bright colours

The ongoing gloom of the pandemic has seemed to trigger a desire to flood the world of fashion with colour. Bright colours can create an atmosphere of positivity and optimism: something that we all need right now.

So be prepared to ditch the blacks and neutrals, and get on board the colour therapy trend with hot fuschia pink, sunshine yellow, pillar box red, cobalt blue, emerald green and bright violet. Bring out all the colours of the rainbow to brighten up and energise the long winter months.

  • Dark denim

You can team up any of your winter brights with the very on-trend dark denim. Denim jackets and jeans are always a safe bet; and particularly popular right now are baggy, wide-legged or low-rise jeans. The more comfortable the better.

But if in doubt, anything dark denim will win you points for style this winter.

  • Puffer jackets

Puffer jackets have gone from strength to strength over the last couple of years. Although they have been around seemingly forever, they really came into their own during the pandemic, with many designers joining in the party to create their own distinctive variant.

Puffer jackets are not only practical and incredibly warm, they are now available in a wide range of styles and colours. They show no signs of going anywhere anytime soon.

  • Shimmer and sparkle

Now that restrictions are being lifted, more and more people are beginning to believe that it’s ok to get out and enjoy ourselves again. And to do it in style. Many designers are pushing the boat out and producing wonderfully indulgent creations. Expect to see any combination of sheer lace, sequins, metallic finishes, crystals and diamanté.

So with everything gradually being open again – and Christmas looming on the distant horizon – it’s time to ditch the loungewear and shimmer and sparkle along with the best of them.
